It's funny how these people always say that NASA is a waste of money when in reality they are a very small percentage of the budget compared to other things like the military, health insurance, welfare, or even road construction.

If it wasn't for NASA we wouldn't have LEDs, think about how dumb that timeline would be

  • 3d-printed food
  • artificial heart ventricle that lasts eight hours on battery
  • better baby food
  • Bowflex exercise gear
  • cochlear implants
  • earthquake protection for buildings
  • freeze-dried food
  • gold plating
  • GPS in your cars (nobody reads gas-station maps anymore) and phones (Pokemon GO, Ingress)
  • infrared (touchless) thermometers
  • LADAR, which enables laser eye surgery
  • LEDs
  • modern food-safety methods (in cooperation with Pilsbury)
  • non-asbestos heat shielding (vehicles, firefighter clothes, ...)
  • Openstack for cloud computing without being Amazon's bitch
  • portable cordless vacuum cleaners
  • powdered lubricants
  • radial tires that last eight years longer (first made for the Mars probe landers's parachutes)
  • scratch-resistant sunglasses
  • self de-icing wings in aircraft
  • signal flares that can neutralize landmines
  • single-crystal solar cells
  • the best water filtration systems that don't gobble electricity like desainators do
  • the foam used in artificial limbs
  • the grooves on the sides of highways that tell you when you're drifting
  • the spill sensors used in chem-engineering factories
  • transparent ceramics used for "invisible braces" instead of the cement-and-wire ones

... why no bullet-points for the list?
