The software used to create Bitcoin means that only the user has access to the password, with an IronKey system giving them ten attempts to get it right
Thomas has only two password attempts remaining before the system will shut off his digital wallet forever and encrypt the Bitcoin files

This bugs the shit out of me -- mistaking potential for actual.
There is not $140 billion "trapped." The missing money is what you spent to buy the bitcoins, and it is lost, it is gone.
Thinking the items that can't be used are worth $140 billion leads to thinking you are owed the $140 billion, and that is terrible and so infuriatingly typical.

In some cases it's actually gone, lost, reformatted or thrown away. In other cases it's still there, you can physically hold a hardware wallet in your hand, but you don't know the password so you can't access the funds. It's like holding a safe without the key. The contents are still in there, and that's what they mean by trapped

QuoteOver the weekend a company called Strava, a social network for people who want to track their workouts, updated an online map showing the routes of 1 billion workouts in 2017.
But in doing so, it seems to have exposed secret US military bases in Turkey, Syria, and Yemen.

QuotePreviously covert bases may have been exposed, and highly trafficked locations within known bases have been highlighted.
Additionally, some users may have left the trackers on while going about normal business. Important supply routes and key daily routines have most likely been picked up by the heat map.

Don't need AI for this. My health insurance refused to refund a blood test, despite it being one of the items explicitly named in my insurance policy, because the it was a "prise de sang" type of blood-test. https://aftermath.site/moxie-robot-ai-dying-llm-embodied
QuoteEmbodied, maker of the AI robot called Moxie, is shuttering. With their closing, parents have to explain to their kids that Moxie is dead.
Moxie is a small blue robot with a big expressive face straight out of a Pixar movie. The robot used large language models in the cloud to answer questions, talk, and function. With Embodied out of business, the robot will soon no longer be able to make those calls. This outcome was always likely – any cloud based device is subject to the health of the company and LLMs are not cheap to run.
(//upload/d5fea7c9-8d50-c020-3a91-d73b76b72806.jpeg)
QuoteIn a Closing FAQ emailed to users and posted on their website, Embodied made it clear that Moxie was likely to stop working within days. No refunds will be given and if you bought the device on a payment plan it's out of their hands. No repairs and service can be offered and the company has no clear plan for who, if anybody, will take it over.

JFC. If this happened recently, you might be able to call the provider and have them switch the coding. Does your province have any kind of insurance regulatory board? They might be able to do something. If nothing else, the OQLF should be able to call them up and swear at them in French. Or send in their elite combat forces.
